What Makes People Enjoy Mario Kart So Much
I’ve always been a fan of the Mario Kart franchise, starting with the Super Mario Cart Super Nintendo version from back in the day. Because I was such a fan, I jumped at the chance to get it for my Nintendo 2DS. It plays on the Nintendo 3DS as well, but the upgraded hardware from the original system that came out enables me to play the newer titles. I have played it in every version possible and plan to keep doing so.
Right now, it is Mario Kart 7 version that I am enjoying, though I plan to get Mario Kart 8 when I am able to get a Nintendo Switch. Mario Kart 7 is good for those who are just playing it for the first time on their Nintendo 2 or 3DS.
You get tracks from all the previous editions, and a few new ones as well. Rainbow Road still gives me a heart attack every time I race on it, but it also lets you know where the track that you are on comes from. Plus, there are un-lockable features for your car you can get by earning coins, so it has more replay value. The more coins you get, the better your car gets, something that was not on the Super Nintendo version.
They’ve also upgraded the graphics from a lot of the old tracks, and with the cars. All the drivers are the characters you have come to associate with Mario, which is nice. It might be interesting though if they found ways to get other drivers outside of that specific cast of characters. But whether you are playing in 2D or 3D, it is a great visual experience.
The controls are easy to use, though each driver has a different response to taking turns based on handling and weight. As you get into the higher levels of cups to chase, control gets harder. I do alright on the 100 cc but that is just normal difficulty. I have not won a race on 150 cc, which is the hardest level on the game.
And yes, there are other games out there where you can customize your car, some of which I have played, but what keeps me coming back to Mario Kart is that it is a more relaxing and fun game to play.
Plus, who hasn’t wanted to race down the road at times as if they have an Invincibility Star activated, knocking everything out of their way? Or shoot fireballs as they are trying to get by. Those are just a few of the cool power ups you get to use to help you win the race. However, they are randomized and you have to hit a ? block to activate any abilities.
And unlike the Super Nintendo version or previous versions, which limits multiplayers to those of you sitting around the TV, you can challenge players from around the world. And, you get ranked in all of those multiplayer races as well. You never know where the players will come from or how good they will be, or what their carts will be equipped with, though I suspect that there might be a mechanic in the multiplayer format to make sure that they only have access to what you do.
Overall, Mario Kart 7 is a great way to jump into the Mario Kart franchise if you are not familiar with it. You will discover all the fun and adrenaline rushing excitement that can be had in this game. It is also an extremely affordable title for the system as well. So grab your helmet, buckle your seat belt, and get racing with Mario Kart 7.
