In The World Of Technology
You are out with your friends. Where are you? You bury yourself in your phone as if it can save you from the world. You are fixated, you are staring at this screen, and your eyes are lifeless. The people around you are doing the same. You have given them no other option, have you? You are sitting in the room with your parents, they are growing older by the second. Where are you? That screen is your life. Those pixels are a prison.
What is going on around you? You do not even know anymore. It has been so long since you have looked up from that screen – that void. Your emotions are invested in what is in that device. What is your life without the phone? Do you know? When you look up, suddenly everything is different. People are not surrounding you anymore. When did that happen?
There is a funeral tomorrow. You found out through your phone. That person was with you last week but you did not look up. The humans around you will be there tomorrow; keep investing yourself in that phone. What is happening there changes by the second.
Where did the people go? What happened to your friends? They were such strong friendships. They were supposed to last you a lifetime. That lifetime is over. They are not there any longer. You could use that phone to reach out to them, but would they answer? It is hard to be around people without glancing at the device. It is hard to be around others without staring at what is happening on the internet.
You can be anything you want on there. Anything or anyone? Online you can be so interesting, so easy to speak to, simple to understand, you are more willing to put your creative side out there as long as you can hide behind the screen. That is what this is. Even when you leave your house and you are in the outside world; glancing down at the phone is so easy. It can deter people from speaking to you.
Where will you be when everyone is gone? You will not know where they are. It will not make sense to you as to what happened. Your understanding of the real world is now blank. It is a confusion, a blur.
While you were looking down, invested in the world that you can create yourself, the real world has moved on. You have spent so much time looking down that by the time you look up it could be too late. It will be painful when you look up. While you were looking down the world never stopped spinning, did it?
Everyone has aged, grown, progressed, moved on, some have even passed on. Your memories with them could be a blur. Do not allow life to move on without you. One day all you are going to have are the memories. Make them real. Let the memories be something real. What you remember should be the conversations, love, happiness, laughter, joy and not muffled words and confusion while you did no more than look at the screen.
