Why Life Is About The Moments You Make
I’ve had a few experiences lately that have taught me a lot about life. One was a lunch at Friendly’s with my mother, my sister, and my sister’s boyfriend. The other was watching what appeared to be the final season of Girl Meets World, though I am hoping it comes back.
Let’s go back to the experience at Friendly’s and lunch first. I was sitting at the table without my phone and enjoying the company of my mom, my sister, and my sister’s boyfriend. It was just fun and enjoyable. I thought in that moment that these are the moments I enjoy the most. Moments like these make me look forward to this Easter weekend, even more so when a new tabletop game of mine arrives since my sister and her boyfriend, Drew, will be over. All that will be missing is take out as we explore the new game.
Then, as I was relaxing I started scrolling through Netflix and found I had still had some episodes of Girl Meets World to watch. It took me on a ride through the past while keeping me in the present as I remembered sitting around with the family and watching its predecessor, Boy Meets World. It gave me great joy to watch it and see how the characters evolved.
Whether you are a bookworm, a movie fan or even a TV fan, whenever you read or watch or listen to something, you are taken on a journey and given so many new memories and emotions along the way. Most can relate to these feelings and experiences, though there are some that don’t relate as well as others. For me, I spend a lot of time reading, watching things and playing games. But, with my mind, I take so many journeys and make memories at the same time.
So why are all these journeys and the making of memories so important? Think about all the happy memories you have intermixed during some of the troubling times. For most people the good times are more memorable because they are there to keep our hopes and dreams alive and give us joy when reflecting back on them. They also give us ideas of things to plan to do or future events to look forward to.
And believe it or not, you also get wiser and smarter from them as well. Think of all the things you learned during a journey or something that made a strong memory for you. It can be as simple as a midnight drive with a friend and having fun getting lost along the way, though that is a tale more suited for my blog.
We all have those people that we enjoy making memories with as well as other media that has made an impact on us for what it was and who we experienced it with. For example, think of all the people you have met through your favorite fandom and how much you enjoy sharing it with them. Or the fun you had with friends you played sports with even if not part of a league.
I remember a moment with my great-grandfather about ice shacks. He sat at the kitchen table while I was eating breakfast and told me all about them and how they were when he was younger. It was fascinating, even more for the fact that I was sitting there listening to my great-grandfather tell the tale instead of a teacher. We studied ice shacks a few years later in school and I was able to share what he had shared with me.
Sharing memories is wonderful, especially with those you care about. It brings even more of the world and beyond into your mind. I’ve shared some of mine here and I welcome you to share some of yours in the comments below. Hopefully you have enjoyed hearing my memories and seeing that they are important to our lives, even the ones we think are just everyday ordinary ones.
