Battle Within

Standing still,
world rushes by.
Unable to move,
holding back tears.

Searching endlessly,
for answers within.
Head spinning,
unanswered questions fill my mind.

Reality in my mind,
sees truth.
Yet my heart unsure,
yearning for it.

Battle within,
between body and soul.
Building strength,
weakness preys upon it.

Internal light dims,
by shadows of the past.
Lack within,
In a cocoon of self-doubt.

Wings ready to fly,
and begin anew.
Soaring into blue skies of spring,
my soul craves.

Breaking the chains and cages,
that suffocate me.
Knowing God’s purpose for me,
yet frozen with fear.

Set me free,
from what holds me back.
Insecurities and lies,
battle between heart and mind.

Ruth Cowan

At a very young age, I found myself lost in the world of books. Through my love of reading, I developed a love for writing. Throughout my life, I have found myself inspired by the life experiences of others and now uses my own life experiences in my writing in hopes of inspiring others the way I was. Using my degree in English and creative writing, I write primarily nonfiction. I believe the way to help others is by sharing our real-life experiences. Being open and honest is the best way to do so. I live by the idea that we are all interconnected, and the more we live by this, the less we will feel alone. Being a mother of six and grandmother of five, I have learned that nothing is certain, and there are surprises around every corner both good and bad. Through the surprises and uncertainties in life, there is always a lesson to be learned and these lessons can and should be shared with others as a way of inspiring them, through compassion and empathy while bringing some hope to them. Faith and family are the largest part of who I am, and why I strive to be the best I can be. I work hard to leave a legacy, especially for my grandchildren.
