Trees skeletal and still stretch skyward
like sentinels watching over the land.
White clouds cover the living skies as
a breeze kicks up whispering its warning.
Bird song ceases and stillness deepens
and humans brace and batten the hatches.
Howling winds buffet trees while branches flail
as flakes fall whipped into sculptured snowdrifts.
The air crackles in the storm’s icy grip
while barren roads funnel rolling white waves.
Cars parked invisible in the whiteout
while blizzard’s rage covers everything.
