Burnt Out: A Poem

Where there once was
a burning passion

There is now
a wick drowned
in wax

Where there once was
a lively phoenix

There is now
a pile
of ash

Where there once was
combustion

There is now
a broken-down
vessel

Where there once was
a garden

There are now
broken stems
and petals

Where there once was
a strong woman

There is now
an empty
shell.

Where there once was…
there is now…

I am completely burnt out;
I have nothing left to give.
