Sitting here at the window, staring up at the stars, how they sparkle in the night sky like diamonds. It makes one reflect on life and regrets. Do I have regrets? Yes, but I learned from those regrets.

Who would have known the signs were there when I was a child? It is possible, but I was not ready.

Ever since I can recall, I have daydreamed. It is easy, as a child, to disguise such actions. It is cute when a person sees a kid pretending or making up stories. But, for an adult, it’s not so sweet. For a mature person to do such things can lead to ridicule unless that person can make money from the pretending and stories. Just ask all those Hollywood stars or the authors in the bookstores.

I would daydream my stories, re-creating what I saw in the movies or television in my little head. With the Dukes of Hazzard, I fantasized an extra character, a young five or six-year-old cousin. In Battlestar Galactica, Starbuck had an adopted daughter from the planet, Leo. In the movie, Masters of the Universe, He-man had a daughter. Even Fox Mulder of the X-Files, a little sister, and David had a little sister in The Lost Boys.

I wrote none of these stories down; they remained in my head, I was too busy being a kid. Little did anyone realize, those daydreams were a sign, a sign everyone should have read. To this day, I still daydream those, and more, stories out. In Merlin, a daughter, Kakashi had a spouse in Naruto. I even crossed Merlin with the Marvel Universe. In Harry Potter, James Potter had a little sister who lived, among other daydream stories.

I guess fate has intervened in my life. Now, with medical problems causing me not to work, it forced me to choose what path my life would take. That is when it hit me. Why not learn to write all those daydreams out?

I returned to school, online, and got an Associate’s degree in Communication. I craved more and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fiction and Screenwriting. Of course, I continued further and gained a Master’s degree in Fiction Writing. Not stopping there, I am now working on a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing with a certificate in Professional Writing.

Now, I am a writer, sharing those stories with the world. I am working on my first novel, Hell’s Half Acre, along with many tie-in short stories (a few of those short stories are here). I am expecting to release my book in 2020. Plus, I write content for Coffee House Writers, along with being an Intern editor, and training new writers.

Life gives people second chances, or more, no matter their age. I am a 45-year-old daydreamer, who is learning to write those daydreams out. If life gives you a second chance, snatch it up, no matter your age. Young, middle-age, or in your golden years, you too can make your daydreams come true.
