With Covid-19 forcing many people to stay home, a lot of us have found ourselves looking for something to do. I have found that curling up with a cozy blanket and pillow and turning on a few of my favorite movies has really helped me fill some of my empty time. When I was a teenager, I can recall my mother always asking me to watch movies with her. Often drama or romance movies, we sat and watched in silence, letting the movies draw us in. So close your curtains and get comfy. Here are five movies sure to keep you entertained (for a few hours anyway).

  • Where the Heart Is

Natalie Portman stars as Novalee Nation, a teenager who is pregnant with her first child. Her boyfriend abandons her in a Walmart and Novalee must figure out where to go from there. With no family or friends, and no way to contact anyone, Novalee finds a way to manage living life inside a Walmart.

  • Beaches

This movie is an emotional roller-coaster. C.C. Bloom discovers her lifelong best friend, Hillary, is terminally ill. C.C. decides that Hillary and her daughter Victoria will move with her into a beach house where Hillary can live out her final days. They reminisce about their lives and reflect on all the things they’ve done, and how their friendship got to be so great. Grab your tissue box, because you’ll need it. Then call your best friend and tell them you love them!

  • Goodfellas

This movie follows Henry and his life as a mobster. Filled with romance, sex, and drugs, this movie is perfect for anyone who loves crime movies!

  • The Butterfly Effect

Evan has been suffering from blackouts, which seems to transport him to a prior time in his life. He is aware and able to make decisions he thinks may alter the future. When the blackouts are over, he returns to his “normal” life, but things do not seem all that normal to him. Nobody believes Evan when he tells them what is going on. Will you?

  • The Sandlot

This classic movie features a group of baseball-loving kids, captivated by the feel of the sand beneath their feet as they run toward home plate. These kids lose a baseball signed by Babe Ruth in a yard behind the field. But not just any yard, the yard of The Beast. Many adventures come their way as they try to retrieve the baseball. The whole family can get in on this watch!
