How much further

can we be pushed

before we learn

Learn that

we cannot keep

going on this way

The things we celebrated

about this country

are nonexistent

How long

we will pretend

that this is the land of the free

We like to pretend

everyone has the same rights

this has been shown to be untrue

When our institutions

are built only to benefit

the privileged few

This fourth of July

I am not proud

but I hope for better

I hope

that this country learns

the value of every life

Regardless of

Race

Gender

Sexual Orientation

We need to

do the work now

to really improve life

for the next generation

Samantha Quain

I am a 25 year old graduate from Rowan University with a degree in Journalism and Radio/TV/Film. I have always enjoyed writing and reading, sometimes a little too much! I love all things Disney, Broadway, and dramatic. Currently working as a recruiter but would eventually want to get into writing professionally.
