I Did It On Purpose

At one time or another in our lives, we have all taken a step back and asked ourselves, “ What is my purpose?” We all have a purpose in our lives. Some are lucky enough to discover it young, others it takes a lifetime to discover. Either way, we all strive to find the meaning and purpose of our lives.
So, what do I mean by purpose? According to Psychology Today, Purpose is defined as a central, self-organizing life aim. Knowing where you are headed in life isn’t always clear. Even if you do find your purpose at a young age, you may not always follow it. I did find my purpose at a young age, but unfortunately, I listened to others and their opinions about my purpose and didn’t begin living towards it until I was much older.
Now we know what the definition of purpose is, but what does it really mean? Well essentially, it is finding what you are most passionate about and incorporating that into your life. It is about giving back and helping others through your passion. No matter what spiritual belief or nonbelief you may have, I truly believe we are put on this earth to help one another through our purpose and passion.
For me personally, my purpose is what God has planned for me. Why He put me on earth, and what He wants me to do with it. For me, it is my writing. I have known since I was young that all I wanted to do was write. It took me a while longer to figure out how I could incorporate my writing into my purpose. What I finally figured out was that using my own thoughts and experiences to inspire others was my purpose.
So, if you haven’t already, how do you find your purpose? A simple way of putting it is to think about what makes you most passionate in the world. What excites you to the point where you want to jump out of bed each morning and get to them? Each of us has something that makes us want to jump out of bed. Find what it is and figure out how you can incorporate it into your life in a way that helps others.
There are some great writers and speakers that can help inspire and motivate you whether you are still searching for your purpose or need help achieving your goals for that purpose. Here are just a few.
Tony Robbins
Robbins has many books and DVD programs that can help inspire and motivate you. I have purchased several of these and know first hand that if you need a burst of motivation, he is it!
Purpose Driven Life
This is a spiritual book based on Christian beliefs written by Rick Warren, founder of Saddleback church. This book is done on a day to day schedule, and if you are looking to incorporate Gods purpose into your life, this is a great start!
Michael Bernard Beckwith
Beckwith, founder of the Agape Spiritual Center has also written some great books. While his books are based on a spiritual tone, they are not based solely on Christianity. He also guides his reader through steps in finding their purpose.
YouTube
YouTube is filled with some great videos of some phenomenal speakers such as the late Professor Randy Pausch. If you watch no other motivational speaker, watch Pausch. He inspired me in a way that no other speaker ever has.
This is just a small list of resources to inspire and motivate you to find and achieve your life’s purpose. What’s most important is that you find what works best for you. Having the opportunity to live life with passion while helping others is the best way to live, in my opinion. It definitely beats spending each day just existing in a life that does not inspire you!
