Lexi, age 30
Lexi Adams sat on her new desk going over some cases she needed to have done by the end of the week.
Man, this sucks, why didn’t I work on them last weekend as I should’ve, and on top of all that I am hungry now.
For Lexi, food was always the comfort which solved all of her problems. It didn’t matter what happened; food would always be there for her.
Shit, but I just ate like 30 minutes ago.
“Damn it, Lexi! Resist!” She scolded herself.
As she began dialing her cell phone to have her food delivered, she glared at herself in the mirror. Lexi teared up as she stared at the woman in the mirror.
What happened to you, Lexi?
“Shit, I need to stop with these crazy thoughts.”
But deep down, she knew that her weight had gotten out of control. In the last year, Lexi had gained a significant amount.
As she tried to fit into an old pair of shorts, she stared at the picture of her and the love of her life. It was about three years ago.
“Oh, how I miss you, Cam.”
All of a sudden, she closed her eyes.
“Lexi, I will always love you.”
Then she heard a flatline.
In the present, Lexi dried her tears and began to smile when she realized her order was about to come.
“I can’t wait to eat.”
After 30 minutes, her large Italian meal arrived.
Lexi felt entranced and was almost like in a state of a food coma. She had eaten everything. Suddenly her phone rang.
Just like clockwork.
“Hey, Mom,” said Lexi while rolling her eyes.
She loved her mother, but she had this nagging way of calling her right after she had done something bad.
“Lexi, how are you, dear?”
“I am fine, mom.”
“Well, I wanted to tell you about your sister’s upcoming wedding?”
As her mother rambled on, Lexi couldn’t help but look into the refrigerator to see if there was nothing else she could eat but opted instead to go back to her desk and finish working on her cases, after all, her job was important to her. She loved working as a social worker and helping others meant so much to her.
Deep breaths, Lexi.
