Open Letter to My Best Friend

Hi, Best Friend!

I know life is crazy these days, so I decided to write you a letter! The best thing about our relationship is that even if we haven’t seen each other in a while, when we finally do get to have coffee together over FaceTime, it’s like no time has passed.

Sometimes it still feels like we’re in high school, talking about Twilight or some crazy rumor about one of the teachers.

Our discussions change from emo music to Hallmark movies and from our favorite flavor of soda to our favorite brand of coffee.

I still love our relationship. We can talk about dirty diapers, messy hair, reality TV, and everything in between.

Speaking of the passage of time, thank you for allowing me to watch your children grow up. I love being able to see all of their accomplishments and hearing all the goofy things they say. You FaceTime me at the beach and the park, so even from afar, I can share those special moments.

I have been so blessed to be treated like part of the family; of your family. When times are tough, I can have late-night talks when we are feeling stressed. When things are good, we gossip about celebrities and tell stories about fun times at home.

Our long phone chats make my mornings better, and it makes me feel like we’re still best friends.

I know how rough your life was at the start of our relationship. It is impossible to put into words how far you have come. You’re so inspiring, you win your battle with addiction. You have become so strong and beautiful. Seeing you every week makes my day. I can’t wait for the day that your son and daughter can learn of your past and be as proud of you as I am. You’re my hero and you’re my family; you’re my best friend.
