‘Make Your Dream Come True Day’ Reminds Us To Hold On To Our Dreams

What is a dream? Is it the adventures we travel on while we slumber, curled up in our beds? Is it an escape we employ when we’re bored in class or work? Daydreaming we are outside, our feet in the freshly cut grass, and the sunlight warming our cheeks. Or, is the dream something which is goal oriented like a better job, joining a band, or writing a book? You know, The American Dream.
On January 13 we get a gentle reminder of The American Dream. For this day is a day to ‘Make Your Dream Come True.’ Yes, that is what it is called. Well, it is really called, Make Your Dream Come True Day. A day to remind us of all the things we wanted to do in life–but is it too late for that dream to come true?
It’s never too late for your dream to become a reality, to reignite the flame in your soul. Who knows? Maybe your dream has changed. I went through many dreams. At first, I wanted to be an archaeologist. I figured, dealing with dead people and ancient artifacts would be easier than dealing with live people. That failed, due to life getting in the way.
Due to a dangerous first marriage. I developed PTSD, social anxiety, chronic depression, and Maladaptive Daydreaming. Along with my chronic pain in my lower back/hip area, I could not work like I use to. I went from working a full-time job as an assistant manager at a fast-food restaurant to lying in bed, unable to move, in a matter of a few years. After working, I couldn’t stop, I had to do something. I took this as a sign to establish a new dream. I figure I would start a business, The Mystical Night Gift Shop. It was an online shop in which I sold craft items, candles, and diverse new age items. Didn’t do so well, never cleared a $100 in a year and none of my craft items would turn out. I had my shop for a couple of years before closing it down. But, I did not quit.
I returned to an activity from my childhood: writing. In 2012, I enrolled at University of Phoenix. In 2014, I received my Associates of Arts degree in Communication. But, I wanted more. In 2014, I enrolled at Southern New Hampshire University. Early in 2017, I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Creative Writing. My concentrations were in fiction and screenwriting. In 2017, I re-enrolled in Southern New Hampshire for my Master of Arts degree in English and Creative Writing. My focus is on fiction writing. It will be bittersweet, but a well-earned degree, which I will obtain in April.
You see, my dream was to be a writer in horror, science fiction, and fantasy. I won contests when I was in elementary school, so why not return to the beginning? In 2017, my novel dream gained a few companions. When one of my core courses involved a couple of weeks in screenwriting, I wanted to learn more. I took the required classes which gave me a dual degree in fiction writing and screenwriting. But, why stop there?
One of my other classes was Introduction to Journalism. The course inspired me to start writing articles. I staredt writing for one of my school’s publications. Writing for them lead me to Coffee House Writers and a few other publications. My new dreams were to write horror stories, entertainment articles, and scripts. But, something happened.

A new dream has forced its way to the surface, to form Mystical Night Media. Not a writing platform like, Coffee House Writers, but a production company, of sorts. I am researching the internet to learn how I can make this dream happen, with hardly any money. I would like to learn to make short YouTube videos using my phone. I would also like to learn how to edit videos and to insert music and voice-overs into them. I would love to learn how to make animations. I could bring some of my scripts to life and learn how to direct and produce.
Of course, I have other dreams. I would love to live near the woods or travel the states. Sorry, dear, those dreams are for another article for another time.
By the way, did I mention I am in my mid-forties?
Here I am, talking about me this whole time, what about you? How will you work on your dream on “Make Your Dream Come True Day?”
