My Name Was Ignorance

A poem about learning empathy.
Picture created by Patricia Harris in Canva.

Please understand,

my name was never stupid.

Struggling with a concept,

making myself learn

in hopes of reaching you.

Once named ignorance,

I walked about blindly.

It took a moment

of culpability

to change me,

finding that I hurt

those around me.

Changing who I was,

renaming my soul

for me to see clearly.

Educated by life,

finding that blindness

is none to nice,

I found my name to be

Empathy.
