Past & Present Me: A Poem

If I could
I would
go back in time
So I could
Hold your hand
And tell you
That this,
Too,
Shall pass.
That your
Broken heart
Will eventually
Fall back into place
At the hands
of your soulmate.
That the friends
You lost
Along the way
Weren’t really
Your friends
To begin with.
That your
True friends
Are still here,
Cheering you on.
I would tell you
That your
Tears
Are warranted,
That your
Suffering
Is not
In vain.
Your wild emotions
Are too much,
But they were and are
Always valid.

But I can’t
Go back
In time.
So I lock eyes
With myself
In the mirror
And say out loud
“You’re not
The girl
You used to be,
But you still
Have so much
More
Growing to do.
Be patient,
Have faith
In yourself,
You have already
Come this far.
Keep going.
I love you.”

And even now
As I cry
in my car,
And anxious thoughts
run rampant,
I know
to be patient.
That this storm
Will pass
Just as
All
Others
Have
Before.
