10 Reasons Why I Loved The Show ‘Smash’

Smash on NBC was canceled after only two seasons but I have to say I have been obsessed with it since it premiered back in 2012. This show is one that resonates with me and I decided to share the 10 reasons why I love it:
-
First and foremost, I loved the cast
From Season 1 to Season 2 I thought the writers did a great job and the series created by Theresa Rebeck and the amazing Stephen Spielberg was well thought out.

The first season focused on a musical about the late Marilyn Monroe
I have been a big Marilyn fan and having them do a show all about her and the men in her life also brought more about the life surrounding Marilyn when she was just Norma Jean Mortensen.

They have two females leads
Having two females leads the talented but naïve Karen Cartwright who has to proven herself against an already trained and conniving Ivy Lynn. I loved how both Katherine Mcphee and Megan Hilty created a big rivalry within these two characters.

I thought the musical numbers on both seasons were golden. Season 1 had all the tunes prepping for Bombshell and then the second season when they added Hitlist, a brand new musical, showcased even more talent.

Introducing Jeremy Jordan in the first episode of Season 2
He breaks into the song ‘Broadway Here I Come’ and the range and talent of his voice game me chills. It was phenomenal.
-
The amazing guest stars who came on the show
I absolutely loved how Jennifer Hudson played a major role in the second season and her rendition of ‘I Can’t Let Go’ was just powerful.
-
Ivy and Karen both grow in the second season and even become friends
I love how this show was able to turn frenemies to actual friends.

The friendship of Tom and Julia was one I loved
Both Tom the songwriter and Julia the book writer went through some tough times, but in the end, friendship conquered all.
-
Derek Wills, the director played by Jack Davenport, grows up
Derek is a character which takes you on a journey with his actions and does not make the best decisions. He decides to come clean and then this allows him to be happy with Ivy.
-
I loved seeing the romance between Karen and Jimmy
Both Katherine Mcphee and Jeremy Jordan had great chemistry and the romance between their characters on stage was awesome.
These are ten reasons I loved the show even though I have more than that. The truth is I will forever be obsessed with Smash and Broadway.
