Soundtrack Of My Life: Look Up Child

One of my newfound favorite artists, without a doubt, has to be Lauren Daigle. Her voice first caught my attention last year when my mother played me the song, You Say, which is included on the tracklist of the album, Look Up Child. The songs have been on repeat in my office for two weeks. As I found myself relating to each and every song, I had to do this piece. People need to have a fresh air of hope brought into their minds and with my reflection today, I hope that my words do that for all that read this. Be sure to check out the album and discover the ways the songs might relate to your life. Christ is all we have to lean on in this treacherous world; let Him be a guiding light in your life today.

The first track on the album is Still Rolling Stones and is the perfect way to introduce the message of this album. It speaks of His power in my life, how He changed my world, laid upon my existence a purpose to spread His word, and to love as He loves. He lives and He wants you to trust in Him for salvation today.

I love Rescue! As a childhood sexual abuse survivor, this song resonates with me in such a perfect way. The week I got saved had been one of the most unhappy weeks I endured with the man who was my abuser. My breath of escape was attending vacation bible school that summer. I accepted Christ as my Savior on a Thursday night and I have never regretted it.  The man who had caused me so much pain was gone with an almost immediate kick to the curb and Christ rescued me from that situation. I am ever so thankful to Him and do not do enough for Him. If you need a rescue from a situation, just trust in Christ and He will be there for you.

This Girl is me in a nutshell. It is a short tune but perfectly describes my walk with Him. I am stubborn and defiant, but He is always by my side. I have traveled and tried my hardest to be accepted in this world, but it’s okay that maybe some won’t understand or entertain the love I have for Him in my heart. I don’t need the world; this girl is not moving away from Him.

Your Wings is a sweet reminder that He is always there for us. I love the sound of this track because it reminds me of my favorite place, the beach. It is a cute song representing my peaceful place, my solid faith, and the armor of salvation.

You Say is the first song I heard from Lauren. This is the one my mother introduced me to because she said it makes her think of me when she listens to it. I am the weaker-minded of the two of us, and this song reminded me of the strength He gives, even if sometimes I feel like I don’t know where to turn in life. Since You Say is one of Daigle’s most well-received songs, I know a lot of people could relate to it.

Everything is an awesome song of praise. He gives us everything we need. He loves us more than we deserve. He has created every beautiful part of this world. How amazing is that?

Love Like This is a special song that speaks of His love. There is no love like the love of Jesus. When we lack motivation, He gives us a push to keep us going. He shows us unconditional love that’s most undeserved, a love like no other.

The title track of the album Look Up Child, serves as a reminder to keep our eyes and minds focused on what’s above. Don’t look for joy or purpose in this world because you will never find it. The most important part of climbing through the muck of this society is Jesus. You should never let anything steal your thunder for Him. Keep your faith through the storm. Keep your mind on Him through doubt. Look to Him and look up, child; I have to be reminded of this often.

Losing My Religion has a message that was laid on my heart through its words. Religion does not save a person; salvation is by grace through faith. The world today promotes outward religion instead of trusting in Christ for salvation. Lose your religion and trust in Him today. Give everything to Him and He will bestow upon you eternal life.

Remember is a song that speaks to my heart because I often struggle with anxiety. I’m also prone to depression and it’s easy for me to lose myself and my faith in the darkest of hours. I always try to remember all He has done for me. He has never left my side through all the years I have soldiered through life.

Rebel Heart is an absolute favorite; this is my song to Jesus. I have always been a stubborn soul and I have trouble being a good listener to His word, but there is nothing in this world that I want. The virus has made me ponder over a lot and I realized that I often have a rebellious heart, but that is not the end of my story. His love is like an arrow straight and true; my rebel heart belongs to Him.

Inevitable is a great tune if you are like me and deal with anxiety. I love the melody and the message. It is presented with a calming reminder that He is always there. I love the line “When You meet my anxiety, then put it to death.” The song lyrics depict a perfect way to view the troubling anxieties that may come in life. His presence is inevitable through it all.

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus is the last song on this album and exists as another reminder that in the midst of the trials and tribulations of this world, and through this mess the virus has us thrown into, we must turn our eyes upon Jesus.

May everyone stay healthy and safe through the tribulation we are facing. Give this album a listen and develop your own reflection from the songs listed. I truly hope it resonates with your soul as much as it did with mine. Remember to look up and trust in Him.
