Summer Survival Tips For Every Thick Girl

Summer is in full affect and you know what? I hate it. Next to spring, summer is my least favorite season. It’s hot, humid, sticky and in turn, I get hot, sticky, sweaty and cranky. Basically, if I have to go somewhere that doesn’t have AC or a pool, I’m not going. Plus, I’m a thick girl, so summer and I really don’t get along. But have no fear ladies (and gents)! I have some products that will make summer time more bearable.

  • Lush’s Silky Underwear ($10.95):

Chub rub is every thick girl’s worst enemy, especially in the summertime. Chub rub is just a non-fancy term for chaffing.  I love my thighs and don’t mind showing them off in shorts, but for the longest time, I didn’t know how to deal with chub rub which often deterred me from wearing shorts. But Lush saved my life. Lush isn’t exactly wallet friendly, but their Silky Underwear works wonders and is affordable. Just pat it on wherever you have chaffing and it’ll wick away any moisture you have.

  • Try to stick to cotton as much as you can:

It’s the “fabric of our lives, right? Simply put, cotton is a breathable fabric and when you sweat, there’s less of a chance that it’s going to cling to your body. I sweat pretty easily (thanks dad!) so I almost always look for cute cotton tops, dresses and skirts for the summer.

  • Boyfriend or mid length shorts will be your best friend:

If you’re like me and most shorts you try on look inappropriate, have no fear because Boyfriend shorts are here. They’re super comfortable and stop at the mid-thigh, so your booty still looks good, but you don’t look like you should be twerking in a music video. But if that’s the look you’re going for, then:

  • Bandelettes ($16.95-$18.95):

If you don’t want to wear shorts all the time and want to switch to skirts or dresses, Bandelettes have you covered. They’re reminiscent of garters, are super cute and come in a variety of colors. Just slide them over your thighs when you’re ready to rock your best dress.

  • Deodorant Wipes:

So, this can go for anybody, not just thick girls. No matter how much deodorant you put on, summer heat has a way of making sure B.O. is ripe. Just chuck some wipes in your purse and freshen up whenever you have to. Your armpits and those around you will thank you.

  • Leggings:

Leggings are pants, and you can fight me if you disagree. Leggings are perfect all year round and are super comfortable and breathable, even in the summer. They can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. A big problem that thick girls have is that once we get to the butt area of leggings, the fabric sheers out. Victoria’s Secret leggings are my absolute favorite if you fit into a large or extra-large. The fabric is thick, comfortable and many come in a high waist style that cinches in your waist. If you need something bigger than an extra-large, Torrid has some good options as well.

These are just some things that get me through the summer months (because, unfortunately, staying inside all summer is not an option). What are some of your favorite ways to fight off the summer heat?
