The One Word Challenge for 2018

In lieu of the New Year people are preparing to start anew. Instead of resolutions that may or may not go as planned, try the One Word for 2018. According to OneWord365.com using a single word, “[It] will take intentionality and commitment, but if you let it, your one word will shape not only your year, but also you. It will become the compass that directs your decisions and guides your steps.” The idea behind the one word is to focus your daily life on that one word.
I recently heard about this idea while planning and watching planner videos. The planner girl that introduced it, started doing this challenge in place of resolutions and it sparked my interest. Not only do I love setting goals and reaching goals, but this challenge seems more focused than the million resolutions I fail at early on in the year. If I set a goal, I can use my one word to help drive me to reach it. If I fail, I can use my one word to reroute and start over.
Although there are a few different sites that are dedicated to this One-Word idea, Ali Edwards started the concept in 2006 and has built a business around the idea. According to Edwards’ website, “In 2006 I began a tradition of choosing one word for myself each January—a word to focus on, to live with, to investigate, to write about, to craft with, and to reflect upon as I go about my daily life.” Although she has created workshops, crafts, etc with her idea there are a myriad of other ideas that can be applied to this project.
Persist, to me, means so much more than follow up. This word means to continue, to repeat, to insist, to grind, to strive and to prevail.
My word for 2018 is Persist! This will help me to follow up and keep pushing, no matter what I decide to do. I have a list of things I want accomplish in 2018, but if I focus and apply persistence to those goals then I can feel better with the things I accomplish and even the things I don’t. Persist, to me, means so much more than follow up. This word means to continue, to repeat, to insist, to grind, to strive and to prevail. I have had many blessings in 2017, and I want to carry on those blessing into 2018 and keep moving forward.
Do you need some word ideas? Some other #oneword words are: No, Different, Truth, Freedom, Empower and Balance among so many more. The words are endless and the meanings behind each word is infinite. You can choose the word that best fits who you are and what you want to accomplish in 2018. Join in on the project, it might make a difference in the way you plan for the new year.
