Top 10 Movies Invading Early 2019

New Year 2019

Happy New Year to you, I hope all is well.

Last year brought us great films, A Quiet Place, Ready Player One, Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War.

This year, 2019, will not let us down. Many films are hitting theaters, and these are my top pick for the beginning of the New Year.

10. Avengers: Endgame

Last year, tears dribbled down our cheeks as we witnessed in dismay when many of our beloved superheroes became dust in the wind and Ironman lost in space. But we know our heroes, and they will not give up without a fight. They will assemble once more to restore the chaos Thanos brought to the universe. Who will the Grim Reaper return to the living and who will he keep? The answers will reveal themselves in April.

9. Glass

Speaking of superheroes, our hero Mr. Unbreakable, David Dunn (Bruce Willis), is in hot pursuit of the villain, Mr. Split Personalities, Kevin Crumb (James McAvoy), and pulling the strings is an old acquaintance, The Breakable, Mr. Glass (Samuel L. Jackson). What mysteries has Mr. Glass hidden that both Dunn and Crumb must know? We will learn in a few weeks.

If you do not know, Glass is the third film in a series by M. Night Shyamalan. The first movie you must watch is Unbreakable, second movie Split, now you are ready for the third movie.

8. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Love is in the air for our favorite Night Fury, Toothless. The third and last picture will bring tears to our eyes. Hiccup and Toothless find another hidden dragon home. A new enemy reigns chaos over the human and dragon utopia and friendships are tested. Will Hiccup and Toothless lose their friendship over a female? We will discover what happens in the Valentine month, February.

7. Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is my husband’s pick. The movie takes place in 1995 when Earth is in the middle of a universal conflict between two alien races. We get to see this powerful hero in March, a month before the movie Avengers: End Game.

6. Us

Fans of the film Get Out will love this nightmare. Talk about your doppelgangers. As a paranormal researcher, doppelgangers are harbingers of bad luck. In Us, the family must fight themselves to survive. Which family will win? Find out in March.

5. Pet Sematary

With the success of the remake IT, now we have Pet Sematary. The trailer shows this remake is darker than the original movie back in 1989. We know the tale, the household pet dies, family buries it in the peculiar looking pet cemetery and next thing you know, your cat is glaring at you through the window wanting in. See the dead rise in April.

4. Hellboy

The big red man is back, and per an interview with Empire,  Stranger Things’ David Harbour says, “There’s really a sense that you’re actually killing things, even if they are giants or monsters. You’re chopping their heads off, you’re bathing in their blood, and you’re feeling the complex feelings of actually cutting the heart out of another thing. We’re taking the time to deal with the fact that Hellboy is a killer. He’s a weapon.” Are you ready for a new, complex, killer weapon? Find out in April.

3. The Curse of La Llorona

I love folklore and horror shows. As a paranormal investigator I research lore, and now as a horror writer, I get to put what I learned into my horror stories.

One such legend is the Mexican La Llorona, known as the Wailing or Weeping Woman. The way the trailer looks, James Wan is going with the mother and children tale. The mother, in a rage, drowned her children in the river, once she regained her senses and realized what she did, she tried saving them. She starved to death walking the bank of the river. Stay safe when La Llorona is crying near you in April.

2. Pokemon Detective Pikachu

Detective Pikachu is another one of my husband’s. No, he is not a fan of Pokemon, but he is a fan of Ryan Reynolds, and the trailer is funny. It would be nice to see a Pokemon Deadpool Pikachu appear in Pokemon Go for a limited time.

1. Godzilla: King of the Monsters

I grew up watching this Kaiju God fight many beasts, both natural and human-made (alien made, too). I love him and Mothra. I named a turtle after Gamera.

I am eager to watch this film. I am not confident about the plotline. But I am glad to know the writers are bringing in Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Rodan. I know Godzilla vs. Kong is next, but I would be ecstatic to hear a Gamera film.  Join me in May for ringside seats for this ultimate showdown.

Of course, there are more to come. This list doesn’t even come close to all the films hitting before summer.

What early 2019 movies are you looking forward to watching?

So psyched about the New Avengers Movie. Didn’t realize it would be out early this year. Thanks for the list!
