War Within

War within - a poem about mental illness
(Created in Canva by Patricia Harris)

Losing ground,

a soldier in

an unending nightmare.

fighting; for my sanity.

The war within,

fought from day one,

surviving, fighting,

scratching for a space

of mindscape, undamaged.

A soldier in a war,

fought on home ground,

a war for survival; against terror

and pain sublime.

Fighting against self,

against shame,

When it is over

I wonder, how much

of me will remain?
