Winter, Bird, Poem, Death, Spring

I saw a hummingbird today. I thought it strange since winter has begun. I think of you whenever I see one.

I wondered why you’d come by to visit on such a cold day. I saw you fluttering your wings amid the icy snowstorm outside.

I know you are a spring bird. I know you came to check on me on this frigid winter’s day. I’m okay; you don’t have to freeze anymore.

Go into the warmth of spring. We’ll meet again when everything renews itself. I will always remember you, my spring bird who came to me this winter.
