Working On Myself – Part 1

This is the second article, in a three part series, that focuses on a journey I began to work on myself. As I explained in the first article, I have always struggled with my weight and could not find any routines or diets that worked. The loss of my dear friend this past June 26, 2020 due to a heart attack, sparked a desire to make changes. My workout journey began in mid-July and, as of today, I have been working out for seventy-five consecutive days.

I know most of you reading must be wondering how a person begins a journey to make it a point to work out, when they have never worked out before. Well I must say it was not easy. I sat down one day as I prayed and then I decided to look up programs on YouTube.

In the past, I would start a video, work-out a for a few days, and then stop after a few weeks. This time, I looked for a routine and I found a video entitled, “How to Lose Belly Fat the Fastest Zumba Dancer Workout for Beginners Step by Step.”  This twenty minute and thirty-eight second video, deals with an upper body workout while also helping you tone on belly fat. Even though it had been awhile since I had worked out, I was determined to begin. I started slowly and did fifteen minutes the first day. Once I began something changed. I felt so motivated and energized that once the second day came, I worked out through the entire video and felt so proud of my accomplishment. It was not easy at first, but once I had established a routine, I found it became easier each day. Now I love waking up and look forward to working out every day.

I do not necessarily workout once I get up. As a mother of three kids who are doing online-school, I have had to adjust my schedule for working out. I am happy to be able to do my workout, whether it’s in the afternoon, evening or later at night.

I even added other workout routines. One that I have been doing lately has been through Kobokofitness. The trainer has many short workout videos which you can adjust accordingly, and she offers plans plus many other things to help you. I think being able to change it up has only enhanced being able to exercise daily.

Lastly, I was never someone who found it fun to workout. Since I began working on myself, I have found such joy in it and I hope it inspires others to start their own journey. Stay tuned for my third part of my journey, in which I will share my progress and how it is going so far.

Here is a before picture of me, to give you an idea of my starting point. I think it is the most weight I had put on since 2018-2019. I will share some more pics of how I am coming along in the last instalment.
