Global warming is a phrase most of us have heard, more so recently. The weather and the environment are changing and scientists have facts to prove a lot of this change is due to global warming. What is the meaning of global warming? Global warming is an increase in the earth’s average atmospheric temperature that causes corresponding changes in climate. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, global warming started to be discussed among the scientific community. From that point on we have seen what is called “the greenhouse effect.” This effect is the Earth warming and the temperatures rising. The increase in temperature causes more natural disasters such as droughts, flooding, more precipitation, forest fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, rising sea levels, and heat waves.

Some people do not believe in global warming but scientists have plenty of data that supports it. Throughout the years the Earth’s temperature has been recorded as getting increasingly hotter. Over the past 50 years, scientists believe that human activity such as agriculture, burning of fossil fuels, and land clearing have contributed to the epidemic of global warming.

Global warming can no longer be prevented but there are ways we can help slow it down. Some of these ways are easier than most people think. A lot of the population believe global warming is too big. Some might wonder what can one person do to help with this issue. Every person, by doing a little, can help in slowing down global warming.

  • Replace the bulbs in your home to energy efficient bulbs.
  • Shutting off the water.
  • Limiting the number of products you use. Reuse any products that you can.
  • Walk, bike, carpool or use public transportation instead of driving.

We can become more educated on the effects of global warming and prepare for climate change. Global warming is not going away but even the smallest act of conservation can help prolong the disastrous effects it will eventually have on the Earth and our environment.
