Memba wen di nayba

had haat shush

bowt wan anada

 

Weh di gwaahn nayba,

notn much gyal,

but yo mi yer seh…

di intro to haat

Az wa pikni,

yo peel yo ayz

bot shet yo mowt

 

Yo noa wen shush geh heeti

kaaz han meet hip

az di ooman

stan ah kimbo

 

Wen joos di flai

laaf saaf eensaid

soh yo kud daj

wa kot aiy

 

Now memba

yo hafu noa

yo plays

 

Kaaz pikni noh

gat no biziniz

inna big pipple kanvisayshan

 

noh repeat ah werd yo yer

kaaz ah pramis yo

wa gud tayrin

Memba wen di nayba | Remember when the neighbors

haat shush | had juicy gossip

bowt wan anada | about each other

 

Weh di gwaahn nayba, | What’s going on neighbor?

notn much gyal, | nothing much girl

but yo mi yer seh… | but did you hear…

 

Da mi aalwayz | Was always

di intro to haat | the introduction to juicy

Yehriso, | Gossip

 

Az wa pikni, | As a child

yo peel yo ayz | You listen in

bot shet yo mowt | but kept quiet

 

Yo noa wen shush geh heeti | You knew when the gossip got good

kaaz han meet hip | because hands were on hips

az di ooman | as the women

stan ah kimbo | took their positions

 

Wen joos di flai | When the gossip was good

laaf saaf eensaid | you laugh softly inside

soh yo kud daj | so you can miss

wa kot aiy | being looked at crossed eyed

 

Now memba | Now remember

yo hafu noa | you must know

yo plays | your place

 

Kaaz pikni noh | because children

gat no biziniz | have no business

inna big pipple kanvisayshan | in grown folk conversation

 

noh repeat ah werd yo yer | never repeat a word you hear

kaaz ah pramis yo | because I promise you

wa gud tayrin | a good whooping

deh near | will be waiting for you

 

but wi yoostu | but we used to

tek wi chaans | take our chances
