Head On

Your eyes glance down towards the car floor.

You take too long of a blink.

You see headlights.

The brightness consumes you.

You feel your seat belt tighten against your chest.

You take a deep breath, but seek air without prevail.

There you remain seated, but where have you gone?

Head On

I can still hear it: the sirens, the screaming, someone calling my name as if I were dreaming,

but everything was real: the tremendous pain, the electrical shock, the carmine stain

that had once trickled down my old polo shirt

from a gash in my throat now covered in dirt–

causing me to question what had happened in the crash,

for my life became a blur in a sudden flash.

Riley Irwin

Do you how do? If you understood that reference, we are definitely soulmates. Anywho, HELLO, my name is Riley and you are twice as likely to see me around because I am an identical twin. I currently attend NAU and am majoring in biology and minoring in psychology. My favorite things include black coffee, cute dogs, and running uphill. Bad puns and sarcasm are in my blood, so you are going to have to bare with me kids.
