What We Do for Fun

We wake up early
after staying up late.
That’s the life of
me, my husband, and roommate Nate.
My husband is watching some car show.
What are they talking about?
I do not know.
Nate stares at a screen for fun.
I stare at a screen
because there’s work to be done.
He is in the gaming world
fighting for glory
while I am deep into a story,
where a girl is training and saving a horse
or a woman is killed by excessive force.
If it’s not some horse show
or a thrilling true crime—
like Heartland, or Criminal Minds—
it’s not worth
my attention or time.
When deadlines are made,
and our work is done,
this is what we do for fun.
