I have always adored Dr. Seuss’ sense of imagination and creativity. Dr. Seuss, also known as Theodor Seuss Geisel, published over sixty books, including How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, The Lorax, and Horton Hears a Who. He won the Pulitzer Prize, an Academy Award, three Emmys, and three Grammy Awards. He had a unique way of writing. His words are simple yet challenging. Many readers have probably read some of his sentences two or three times before getting the idea.

Since today is his birthday, I want to share several of my favorite quotes of his. The following quotes have impacted my life greatly.

“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.”

My life is always full of nonsense. Writing my own fictional stories (or fantasies) keeps me sane.

“Why fit in when you were born to stand out?’

Being different is never easy, but I am grateful that I stand out like a flower growing out from concrete.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

Reading has led me to discover some incredible things, like how to small the world can be.

“People are weird. When we find someone with weirdness that is compatible with ours, we team up and call it love.”

Love is challengingly weird sometimes. Nothing is more amazing than finding your perfect soulmate.

“If things start happening, don’t worry, don’t stew, just go right along and you’ll start happening too.”

I don’t like change, but I’ve learned that change can be good and exciting.

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”

Nothing is more satisfying than learning to avoid judgments and be one hundred percent yourself.

“Sometimes you will never know the value of something until it becomes a memory.”

I didn’t know how important memories can be until I experienced losing a family member unexpectedly.

“Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!”

My disability has made my life challenging, but I have always figured out a way to overcome every obstacle.
