Holidays Without Them

Moving away,
takes a lot, people say
but try it –
just around the holidays

I miss our chats
our traditions
and feast

Putting up our tree
No, not you – just me
but would do it all again
with pride and glee

No snow – we know
but Ho Ho Ho
we made it work,
with Caribbean flow

Black cake with rum
bumping our gums

Ham and turkey
di bubble
entire house flavorful

None stop laughing
just –
simplistic styling

Midnight mass
Oh laad
how long will it last?

As we giggled
our way through
a drawn out mass

Now a days
I celebrate –
No cake will bake

Because — Holidays
are just
empty days
without them

Calpernia Charles

Sea breeze clears my mind as the waves washes the tension away. Belize my native land that breathes creativity and uniqueness with every ray of sunshine. Written words my way of standing up and speaking out.
