10 Things I Want To Do One Day

Everyone has a bucket list, whether you know it or not. Sometimes, it’s as simple as saying ‘I want to do that one day’. Other people keep a physical list. I don’t know if I’m actually supposed to know this, but my boyfriend keeps his list in his wallet. Mine is (was) kept in my head. New Year’s resolutions are often why we think about our bucket lists. Using a new year to cross something off of that list sounds like a good idea at the time. Of course, like most, those resolutions rarely come through. Still, it got me thinking about the things I know I want to do someday. It’s not all that flashy or important in the grand scheme of things, but this is my bucket list.

1. Get Married.

I feel like this is an obvious one that appears on most bucket lists. My family likes to say that this one might not be more than a few years off too. No worries though, because I’m not engaged just yet. Still, it’s close enough to get me thinking about what I’ll want when the day comes. Casey and I want a simple ceremony, surrounded by the people that love us most when we tie the knot.

2. Start A Family.

Another obvious one, but I want a big family. I want to have several kids of our own. Then, once they’re a bit older, I’ve convinced Casey that we should foster as many children as we can. I was raised in a loving home, and I know that there are many children who don’t get that. If we can give our children a safe happy home, and give it to those in need of one, I’d say that this one would be checked off pretty easily in the future.

3. Write A New York Time’s Bestseller.

This has been my dream for such a long time. I remember the first day I realized I could be a writer. My 5th-grade teacher complimented a short story I’d written in class and told me about a writing contest. I wrote my first story that same year, which is another story in itself. Still, it was that moment that I knew I wanted to write and publish my own story. It wasn’t until later that I decided it would be a bestseller.

4. Own A ‘Belle’ Room.

From the moment I saw the library that the Beast gave Belle, I knew that I wanted a room like that in my own home someday. Shelves loaded with every book I could imagine, lining every wall from floor to ceiling. A cushy chair by a window to read in on rainy days. Can’t you see it? It’s a strange thing to want out of life, but one day I hope to have it.

5. Go To A Movie Premiere.

Now, I don’t think I’ll ever be walking across the red carpet at the premiere. That doesn’t mean that I don’t want to attend a real movie premiere in New York City one day. Preferably, it would be the latest Marvel or DC Comics movie. I wouldn’t argue too much about the movie, though, as long as I could attend one.

6. Be An Extra On A TV Show.

I don’t usually see myself as someone in front of the camera. I prefer behind-the-scenes work, where the real magic happens. Still, how cool would it be to find myself working as an extra on my favorite TV show? Supernatural would be my preferred choice, but the filming in Canada would make that a bit difficult. Does anyone know a good show that films in the U.S.?

7. Graduate With A Real Degree.

College wasn’t always something that I thought I wanted to do. When I was younger, I told my daddy that I wanted to work at Tulsack with him when I grew up. Eventually, I figured out that I wanted to be something different than the rest of my family. That’s why I picked Corporate Communications as my major. I should graduate a semester early too.

8. Go See A Broadway Musical.

Technically, I have seen several musicals that were on Broadway at one point or another. However, there’s something magical about the idea of seeing a musical on a Broadway stage. My personal favorites to see would either be Phantom of the Opera or the new Anastasia musical. Will someone volunteer to take me?

9. Have A Wikipedia Page.

This is a big one for me. I want to do something in my life that makes me Wikipediable. The reason why is a little funny though. Has anyone ever played The Wiki Game, where you start on a random page and click on different links until you find a specific one? Yeah… I want someone to have to find their way to a page from mine someday.

10. Watch An Accurate Percy Jackson Movie.

I know that you can’t fit everything from the book into the movie, but I could never understand how the only details that transfer are the characters’ names. C’mon, Hollywood. You’ve literally been handed the plot of your movie. How do messes like the Percy Jackson movies happen? Can I please have my book-accurate movie?

Now that you’ve had a chance to see my bucket list and learn a little more about the strange goals I have in life, maybe it’s gotten you thinking about the things you want to accomplish someday. Write them down and save the list. It’s fun to look back and cross things off or add something new.

J.C Ballard

Jordan Ballard has been a writer for most of her life, a passion that has only grown with her. A student at Rogers State University, she studies Corporate Communications and Public Administration. As a pessimistic optimist, she tends to see the world around her as something she aspires to change. In her spare time, she can often be found reading the same book for the nineteenth time. Her dream is to be a full-time writer someday.
