A Little Wickedness

How many people would have green skin if envy was shown on the outside?

I was watching an old episode of ABC’s “Once Upon A Time” on Netflix on the other day. It was the episode that explains the reason why the Wicked Witch of the West’s skin is green. Zelena, the witch, was raised in Oz. She has pale freckled skin, red hair, and blue eyes. Zelena soon finds out that she was abandoned by her real mother when she was a baby. Her mother abandons her in the woods and a passing cyclone whisks her away to Oz.  A woodcutter and his wife witness the cyclone and see her fall out of a tree.

Her birth mother is named Cora and she lives in the Enchanted Forrest. Cora actually birthed and raised another daughter who turns out to be the Evil Queen.  After finding out about her half-sister, Zelena becomes envious of her sister’s privileged life and literally turns green. Little did Zelena know, however, that Cora was a horrible mother and pressures her half-sister to become evil.

It got me thinking about how envy is presented in everybody. It is easy to feel jealous, especially in this age of society. I think green skin would be common if it was possible.

“Oh, (his/ her) life looks so interesting. I wish I was living it.”

Many fall for the fake perfectness that is presented in pictures and videos on social media. I am one of them. I get jealous and feel less successful. I also get so stressed out about not having appealing pictures. I had to learn that being happy is more important than being perfect. It is silly to assume that a certain person has a better life just by looking at posts on social media, so always remember a little wickedness can easily affect your happiness.
