A dark and barely lit staircase with a window facing the fading sun

When I first met you,
I believed you were from God,
bringing the light into my eyes,
skip to my step;
it was perfect.

The time dragged onward;
our love never faded,
or aged
as the sunrays danced,
along our skin.

A saying passes for wisdom
among the unititiated:
“If you are not careful,
you can have too much
of a good thing.”

The moment you left
woke me up from my
paradise never to be.
My place of refuge
gone.

My refreshing tall drink
a dry well,
leaving me parched,
empty,
alone.

In a no man’s land
filled with putrid, broken dreams,
shards that slice my innocence.
Precious life now drained,
barely a breath from my pale body.

From the beginning,
you whisked me away
isolated and berated me until I was
desperate,
obsessed,
lonely,

Trying to cling to delusion
as your embrace attempted
to keep me by your side.
Yet I slipped from your
own fingertips.

Now I chase away the demons
that remind me of our
nightmare relationship,
A toxic trance I wish
I could wake up from.
