A void slithers into him
Leisurely consuming his soul
Darkness leaching into his veins
Turning his eyes into black holes

Time passing slowly
Memories beginning to fade
Sunset now representing
A life now lacking flare

Finding its way to his heart
His vacant globes
Taking in the fiery yet peaceful setting sun
Flooding his soul with light

Breathing new life
Demolishing the anguish
Transforming into it anew
As if instead of a man
here existed a Phoenix

Calpernia Charles

Sea breeze clears my mind as the waves washes the tension away. Belize my native land that breathes creativity and uniqueness with every ray of sunshine. Written words my way of standing up and speaking out.

Reading this poem, the show My Last Days comes to mind. Many a times the person diagnosed as ‘Terminally Ill’ seemed to be like a Phoenix.
A thought provoking poem. I loved it.
