You know how the little things you dislike about a person made you love him or her even more? Well, that was CJ. On the one hand, he is the best guy friend a girl could ever have. He is caring, funny, and dependable. On the other, he can be such a stubborn, controlling asshole. I seriously want to dick punch him sometimes. Nobody drives me more insane than he does.

I never expected him to become a big part of my life. I mean, I figured he would be another insignificant person who I crossed paths with while I visited my aunt at her camp over the summer break. But something happened on that day on that dock, something I still can’t describe. I couldn’t just avoid it. So he became the first boy I ever gave my phone number to.

***

Most things in my life were more complicated than I wanted them to be. My parents were going through a nasty divorce. Mom wanted to start fresh, so we moved. I started a new school where I quickly became a victim of bullying.

Really wish I could teleport anywhere right now. 🙁

Doesn’t matter how loud I turn up the music, I still hear them arguing

I hate it. I hate my life!

I started sniffling and crying as I hit the send button.

I think that’s a bad idea.

“Uh?” I thought. I was about to reply when CJ sent another text.

If you suddenly appear next to me, I’d probably shit myself :O

And you know how smelly my farts are 😛

I snorted and started laughing. The tears disappeared.

So maybe give me a heads up because I don’t want to ruin my Batman underwear

Okay weirdo 😛

I know it sucks right now but it won’t last forever.

Hopefully…

Just focus on the positive….

Only 4 days until we see Peter Parker defeat Venom :O

Only 4 days until I see your smelly butt :p

There she is! 😉

***

A few years later…

Only 10 days left! Can’t wait!

I have to tell you something but I don’t want to upset you...

Is it another spoiler alert? b/c I think I know them all ;p

No. Avery wants me to take her…

No way jose! Did you tell her about our pact?

Yes.

she said girlfriends come before friends….

You know that’s bull!

We vowed to see very comic superhero movie together no matter what.

I know…but our 4 month anniversary is that weekend

You gotta understand.

Seriously? she hasn’t seen the first one.

She will bother you w/ tons of questions.

I don’t know how you can date an airhead like her

Come on, don’t be like that.

I’m sorry that I’m breaking our pact.

I promise that I’ll make it up to you.

Whatever! enjoy the movie.

***

Ten days later…

I groaned when I saw CJ a couple of seats down from the open spot for a wheelchair.

“Thought you were going with the airhead…”

“I told her if she really loves me, she wouldn’t ruin any of my traditions,” He replied. “Turns out she doesn’t.”

My stomach twisted with guilt.

“I’m sorry if I c…”

“No. You didn’t. It was all me,” he stopped me mid-sentence. “Plus I promised you I’d never let you down. I’m sorry.”

I was about to respond, but the movie started.

“Here we go,” he smiled and handed me a box of Sour Patch Kids.

Present day: Three Weeks after the Bar Fight

You can’t ignore me forever. I promise I’ll be more a sidekick than a dick. – Robin

“Oh sure… Bring out all the tricks,” I sighed as I picked up the brown Starbucks bag that he wrote the message on. My favorite food order was inside the bag: a turkey pesto panini and a double chocolate brownie. Next to the bag was a medium-sized Starbucks coffee cup with “Grande Toasted White Mocha” on the label.

After scanning the block for his black Dodge pickup truck, I went back into my apartment and grabbed my iPhone. I bit my lip as I contemplated my next move. I opened our text chain and started typing.

You forgot the nonfat milk part.

You can’t kick ass without protein.

I could feel my mouth forming into a smile, and it annoyed me a bit. CJ was my kryptonite.

I know I’ve apologized hundred times already…

But you gotta know I am seriously sorry.

I didn’t mean to disrespect your independence like that.

I just really care about you...

Each word tugged on my heart, but I knew I had to stay strong.

I know, CJ. Boundaries. We just need more boundaries.

Like I know you don’t like my choice in men.

I certainly don’t like your choices either.

So I think it’s best that we stay out of our love lives.

Okay. I understand.

So what’re your plans for Wanda Vision premiere?

I rolled my eyes and flashed a smile.

Well, I’m hoping that Robin will show back up with pizza.

I mean you can join us if you want 😉

Lol. See ya then.
