Focus Fumbles

I hate not being able to focus. My thoughts are a million miles a minute. Part of me thinks a nap would help, but I’ve already spent two hours trying without success. Coffee and covering up with blankets are how I will survive the day.

The best solution for me is to find one small way to keep myself comfortable. An example of this could be wearing my favorite hoodie or listening to music during a commute. My routine in college was to get up, get ready, and go to the Starbucks at the Student Center. I wouldn’t say I liked coffee then, so I would get hot chocolate. Then I moved on to caramel apple spices. I would sit at a table and have my drink. It was an excellent way to get my day started.

Currently, I have been looking for a way to incorporate a new routine into my day. Working out would be ideal. My sleep schedule is sporadic right now, and honestly, I don’t see that changing anytime soon. That said, I don’t have the energy to work out first thing in the morning.

Another thing that’s important to remember is the sooner you start something, the faster you will be done with it.

This mentality helps me when I don’t feel motivated to do something because if I start it, I am one step closer to being done. Eventually, you’ll get into a groove, and you can move on to the next part of your day.

Listen to something while working, if possible. You can turn on your favorite playlist, movie, book, etc. This practice will make the time go faster. Talk to a friend.

Have a designated work area. This idea is helpful if you prefer being able to leave work at work. You can go to your site when you need to focus and enjoy the rest of your home when the day ends. Everyone has hard days. Hopefully, some of these tips will help you the next time you struggle to focus.
