St. Augustine, My Love
St. Augustine, aged and pristine,
one would never know
the Matanzas you’ve seen.
Castillo De San Marcos
a grand coquina fortress
is sure to impress
all eyes that gaze upon it.
The lighthouse of black and white
its ghostly inhabitants
wave from above.
Looking up I block the sun
and wave back with my smile.
I welcome the spiritual journey
as I stare at a church,
mimicking the Basilica of St. Mark
in romantic Venice, Italy
with intricately carved mahogany
and mosaic tiled floors.
I find the perfect end to my day
when I stop at a bistro to
sit on a patio overlooking the ocean
while I take off my floppy hat
and kick off my shoes
I promise to remember
St. Augustine, My Love.

A masterpiece, Jill. Truly a masterpiece!
Awe, thank you, Julie. This poem definitely comes from my heart. My visit to St. Augustine was so inspiring.
Beautiful poem. It makes me look forward to my upcoming trip to St. Augustine even more.
Thank you so much! My visit to St. Augustine was too short. I could only stay the weekend. One day, I’ll go back for a week (at least).
