Writing: Insanity or Passion?
Embrace the Creative Spirit
I indulge in creativity during summer. I have are two modes of operation: Read several books or write a portion of a novel. Go back and reread after a few months and restart from a new place.
Break the Habit
College helped me break that pattern because we had to read novels for class and reach the page count for multiple courses. Page counts range from twenty-five pages for literary categories such as First Novels or Women Writers. Those classes focused more on studying style and analyzing structure. We also had core major classes where the page count was sixty pages by the end of the semester. The goal in these classes was to have a completed story or chapter by the end of the semester.
We read material to learn the technique of different authors and usually, we had to attempt whatever method we covered for the next class. I learned to adapt to that process. It slows down my progress because I’m splitting my creative time.
Read for Motivation
Normally, I read romance novels or books that have a simple formula when writing. It encourages me I can succeed in this industry too. This year, I’m reading popular recommendations. Currently, Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros is my obsession. The main character has a disability and isn’t whiny about it. She has to consider it during her training, and I love that.
Cerebral Palsy and I have a complicated relationship .It’s hard to incorporate it into my fiction. However, I love that there is more representation of disabilities in Fantasy because everyone deserves to see themselves in their favorite fantasy universe.
Finding a new series helps me want to write for my future readers who will relate to my book. They can’t do that if I never write it because of my self-doubts.
Stories need to be told, If you came up with the idea, then you are the person who can best describe it in a story. Keep going! Your book deserves to be published.
