Holiday Health Check

The holidays in my house mean that starting November 1st, holiday specials are on a constant loop until January 5th. My best friend, who also is my roommate, loves the holidays, so once Halloween is over, its cookie and cocoa season. I love it. I love soup and stews.

The weather doesn’t agree with my body, though. The cold makes my already tight muscles difficult to move. Every point of discomfort is magnified by 10. I usually have more bladder issues when the weather gets colder.

This past week I have been falling asleep at random points throughout the day. I get frustrated, but it reminds me that self-care is necessary. I remember to drink water. I move as much as I can in my chair. I need to remember to brush my hair every day to save myself a headache later.

My body knows what’s best for it. This being said I know I should listen. The problem is sometimes my body just wants to nap for a week. This isn’t conducive for work, so I do what I can. I keep my energy up with water and healthy meals like smoothies for if I’m not hungry and a lot of greens. I know it’s easy to say I’ll take better care of myself when things settle down.

The problem is most people are waiting for a day that will never come. My advice is to start small. I have issues drinking water because I don’t want to have an accident. I make myself drink 16 oz a day. I’m no longer drinking caffeine before bed, and I’m trying to work out a bathroom schedule. I know it won’t be an easy process at first. Hopefully, it’ll be better in the long run, and my body will adjust. You can’t help people unless you help yourself first. People want you to enjoy the holidays, not exhaust yourself.
