Stormy Days Ahead

The skies are constantly open.
The roads are slick with the tears
that fall from the dismal clouds above,
soaking me through to my core.
The rain does not end,
but it slowly lets up.
The downpour softens to a constant drizzle.
Still, it doesn’t stop.
Soon enough, thunder rumbles
and rolls through the clouds,
signaling the return of heavy raindrops
that splatter on the rooftops.
Then, it’s misty again,
a sliver of false hope as the cycle repeats itself.
I wait for the promise of clear skies and sunshine,
yet the rain never ends.
