Letting Us Down

This world seems to grow colder

Human compassion

is a thing of the past

too many psychotic episodes

stuck on rerun

focal points disillusioned

for the one real spectrum

has passed over

a world run by the corrupt

trying to oust

their poorer brothers

partners in crime

How do these corrupt leaders

just close themselves off

to what’s really going on?

too many dying

for a reason

no one believes

children being tortured

and killed

sold into sexual slavery

all due to

overcrowding prisons

and the profits made

Walls built in hopes

of keeping the future safe

walls built to separate

we would rather fight

wars we can’t win

they keep us fighting each other

Whatever happened

to the meaning of

Justice? Balanced blindly

What must society do

to uphold our leaders

to higher standards?

Are we too far gone

to even fix a system

no one believes in?

I find it hard

to put trust

in a system

that allows the rich and poor

predators to hunt

and play out their sadistic pleasures

I find it hard

to have faith

that Lady Justice will prevail

not in this lifetime

disillusioned leaders

counting their next vote

Only to be remembered

for letting society down

and corrupting Justice
