Above the Earth’s war-torn meadows,
beyond this world’s dark shadows
and ghostly echoes,
I wonder about life in the ghettos
and the refugee’s grim grottos.

Rarely will the ones so betrayed
escape from the shrouded shade,
those out-of-sight striplings
among the infested Everglades,
who pray to awaken
to the roar of a rescue crusade.
