Why You Should Watch “Tidying Up With Marie Kondo”

I know, I know, everyone keeps talking about Marie Kondo and her new tidying up show on Netflix. If you’re like me, you thought to yourself, “Seriously? A show about tidying?”, and you held your ground against jumping on the bandwagon and falling head first into the next binge on Netflix. But let me tell you, it’s binge-worthy.

There are a lot of TV shows and movies, and it seems the options are endless. There are so many choices, you could scroll for hours trying to pick one. Heck, I’ve spent more time trying to pick a TV show or movie than I would’ve spent watching half of it. Sometimes the choices are great, though. The writing is bad, the acting is poor, and it’s left you feeling lack luster. Because there are many options, I think it’s important to become picky and choose options that are worth it, and Marie Kondo is worth it.

Yes, the premise of the show is to tidy up your home, but it’s so much more than that. Kondo promotes a sense of peace, comfort, and joy in tasks that usually don’t spark anything but anxiety and irritation. She teaches us to be grateful for the items we do have, and let go of the things we don’t need.

As I watched her work and converse with these families, I saw the joy it brings her to bring peace and happiness to those she’s working with. The show is more than just organizing, but changing attitudes and habits to create a healthier and more balanced life. These skills allow for more time with family, friends, and yourself, while also lowering anxiety and stress.

With so many options on what to watch, do yourself a favor and choose something that will leave you feeling happy and lighter. Plus, you’ll learn a few tricks on how to organize all the stuff (or junk) you have. Perhaps even throw out things you don’t need. Who knows? Maybe you’ll learn simple is best. All I know is I’m enjoying quality television and, for once, benefiting from my binge.
