Slowing Down Time With Intentional Living
If time is a matter of perception, then you can change its pace. One might think that the days passed slower in our youth, but for adults, that is a distant point of view. When comparing your outlook and experience in the past, rather than how time passes today, we must realize time isn’t absolute. You can’t stop or rewind it. To solve this loss, set your intentions and take everything day by day. It all comes down to your mindset, how you prioritize, and incorporate these changes into your daily routine. By purposeful living, you can slow down and make the most of your day.
Free Time
Being mindful and focusing on the present is what will make time seem to pass slower. A first step is assessing how you spend your free time, whether that’s your lunch hour or before going to bed. Start by checking your screen usage and analyze what occupies most of your downtime and why. Quitting social media is not necessary. Set designated slots in your schedule for such activities. Try to break the habit of doom scrolling or watching a movie simply because you can. Be intentional with what you consume, how much, and why you feel the desire to turn to entertainment and mindless content consumption.
Priorities
When planning your day, try applying the Three Priorities Rule. This means focusing on the three things you absolutely must get done in a day. Writing these down can help you stay focused on what matters to you in order of importance. When you get stuck, don’t get distracted by completing other mundane tasks that can wait. Make sure you include on the list at least one thing that keeps you grounded, relaxed, or joyful. You need moments of stillness to take everything in and reconnect with what matters. This depends on what you love, value, and/or and believe. By being more mindful, staying aware of your priorities, and approaching your tasks with a clear intention, you’ll break free from feelings that evoke a sense of urgency or rush.
Life is much more meaningful when you’re not sprinting through it. Take it hour by hour and you’ll notice the difference by being more aware of what you fill your schedule with. Slowing down does not decrease your progress or productivity. Being present and intentional with what you do are the keys to steadying your experience with time, making the days feel fuller, longer, and purposeful.
