Sunflowers, A Poem

Yellow, orange, red lights never seen.

A woman holds a bundle of sunflowers like she holds onto hope. 

Hope the color of her eyes once.

She still stands and waits for him. 

Still, unwavering like an anchor in sand.

Yellow, orange and red lights never seen. They all die before highway and road meet, and yet she still waits for him, clutching her sunflowers of hope. Hoping he’ll accept them with her offer of forever.

Yellow, orange-red fall. 

Fall has arrived and the woman who holds her hopes wrapped up in a bundle of sunflowers hopes that you’ll fall too- fall for her.

She has been anchored for a long time and would like her true love to free her from this stale earth once and for all.
