Face In The Mirror (A Poem)

I look in the mirror,
and what do I see?
But the face of a girl,
looking back at me.

Big eyes of a hazel~green,
A smattering of freckles…
from cheek to nose to cheek,
proud set of a jaw,
and the defining of lush lips.

But is there more than that?
There has to be,
more to this girl I see –

Who is she and where has she been?

With the reflection staring back,
gazing deep into those pools of green.
Seeking and searching long –
And wait… her soul, I think it’s gone!

Looking further than I see –
That no the soul is not gone,
its buried deep…
Afraid to let it show
Scarred and marred

This is what I see,
only from the eye of the face,
looking back at me.

Holding more and gazing longer
I see that her face is gracing moisture
Reaching a hand to a smooth face
To find a solidness meet my flesh

A blink…!
A gasp…!
And then I realize –

Pulling my hand away and up to touch
Upon my own face are those salty tears

Looking once again to know
The face in the mirror
Has a hand upon it too
How could this be?

This girl looking back at me
The face; the hands

It’s….. me
