Last week around this time, I was making a gratitude list. No, not a wish list, although I spent two hours clicking “Add to Wish List” after I finished it. It was more of a ‘complaint vs. blessing’ type of list.

  • Complaint: I never have enough time to accomplish every single task. I take on more than I should.
    • Blessing: I am still breathing. My clock is still ticking. I am learning new time management skills.
  • Complaint: My legs are always stiff and hurting.
    • Blessing: I don’t have a fatal disease/ condition. I am in good shape. I have a standing chair to stretch out my muscles.
  • Complaint: I wish I was more independent.
    • Blessing: I have a great support system. I have accomplished so much. Some can’t think for themselves.
  • Complaint: I am not a typical wife. My husband has to deal with caregiver responsibilities.
    • Blessing: Brandon adores my imperfections and doesn’t care. He married me for me.
  • Complaint: I get insecure about my writing and other skills. I am no Stephen King or Jane Austen.
    • Blessing:  I inspire people. My voice/writing means something to them. I need to continue no matter what. I will have my own brand.
  • Complaint: Holidays are hectic and exhausting- many family gatherings through December.
    • Blessing: I have a huge, loving family. Some don’t have any family.
  • Complaint: I still act childish sometimes.  I hate adulting. I would rather worry about what to watch next on Disney Plus than worry about what bill to pay next.
    • Blessing:  Young souls have more fun. My future kids will be blessed with a fun mom. Imagination drives creativity. Great creativity makes great stories.
  • Complaint: I focus on the negativity more often than I should.
    • Blessing:  At least I can come up with good sliver linings.

It is always easy to complain about the negatives, or wish for better things, especially when it’s Christmastime. Sometimes we all need a little reminder of the blessings we already have. So I dare you. I dare you to end every negative statement on a positive note.
