The Light Across the Room

I can see you sitting across from me.

Your eyes were dark and eerie. But there was nothing about you that screams danger. Your stance was high but the way the calmness of your stance starts to still me. You’re alone at the piano. The quickness of your fingers and the soulful music you were making from the instrument only filled my inquisitiveness about you.

You seemed focused on the music; I don’t think you can feel my eyes on you. I don’t think you can sense my eagerness to talk to you. I let my eyes wander from your quick hands to your gaunt face. You were serious and strong but there was a hint of youthfulness that I was eager to sense up close.

I decided to get up from my seat and speak to you.

I strode across the room as I kept my gaze at you. Everyone in the room started to become a blur. My focus and vision were on you, playing that piano. Your dark long hair was close to your shoulder. I can finally see it clearly. Your hair had such a slight curl to it that it glistened in the dimly lit room. Your face and stance felt stoned, but the movement of your fingers was fluid and soft.

I’m now closer to you.

I can smell your natural scent of the ocean and your mild cologne, a hint of vanilla, and smoked wood. Being close to your presence starts to make me feel weak. The song you were playing on the piano starts to move my body closer to you. You look up at me from the instrument as I start to sit right next to you. You didn’t stop playing and quite frankly, I didn’t want you to stop. The feeling you were giving me from the music you were playing and from your eyes, was sending my world ablaze.

I let you play for a while. I let the music take over before I decided to lean over and plant you a gentle kiss. Everything around us stops. The music, the people, the air around us all just stopped for that moment. I let our lips get to know each other first. I let our gentle kiss cherish this moment in time. I let my feeling gather up to the service and start to slowly explode into this deep and gentle kiss.

You were the light that was from across the room. And I was the moth going into your flame.
