The Depression Marathon

You have just achieved something so amazing. Yet, you feel nothing. The recognition and applause race through your veins. Yet, you feel as if you never broke through the ribbon at the finish line. All you want is the energy in the air to increase your heartbeat and leave you with a faint smile. Yet, your apathetic blood swallows every bit of gratification.

Depression is the ultimate test of endurance. Just like running an ultra-marathon, your brain is your worst enemy. It will flood your mind with reasons to stop. It will beg for your agreement. It will make it difficult to focus on anything but the pain.

Depression leaves you sweating and shaking and overcome by the numbness. It makes a person dehydrated from the sweet, pure liquid of innocence. Your throat grows a lump, you wish you could cry, but you tears were desiccated by the end of childhood.

No matter how many miles you go, you cannot run away from your depression forever.

But you can choose to look around at all of the people cheering you on. Use that as motivation to keep going.

Do you how do? If you understood that reference, we are definitely soulmates. Anywho, HELLO, my name is Riley and you are twice as likely to see me around because I am an identical twin. I currently attend NAU and am majoring in biology and minoring in psychology. My favorite things include black coffee, cute dogs, and running uphill. Bad puns and sarcasm are in my blood, so you are going to have to bare with me kids.
