Dragon’s Tears

Sometimes, he sat upon the cliffs
Stared up at the stars a’shine like jewels.
When a dragon died, it was said in legends
In the Draco constellation, their soul resided.
One, in particular, glowed reddish gold
He liked to think that one was her.

During his first mating run, he met her
A golden female sat regal atop her cliffs.
She flew straight and fast as an arrow gold
To him, more precious than jewels.
Up in the sky where the icy air resided
A mating ritual told of in written legends.

His love for her told in Bardic legends
He rolled, spinned, and danced with her.
Gently together back to earth they resided
Laid entwined on sweet grass atop her cliffs.
His eyes filled with tears of silver jewels
In happiness being with his lady of gold.

One fateful morning retold in Bardic legends
Her life’s blood-flowed ruby-red jewels.
A thrown lance into their cave impaled her
Her last breath left as she lay atop her cliffs.
Next to her in wreckage their clutch now resided
He heard her cry out in pain, his lady of gold.

He roared and winged to where her body resided
Tenderly, he held her close, his lady of gold
Awash in grief, he sat alone atop the cliffs
Retribution, he would exact as told in legends.
In amazement, a tiny female lived; he saw her
A golden lady more precious than jewels

His daughter now came to admire the star jewels
The constellation where a Gold Dragon resided,
Who guarded her as the bright gold star which was her
From his eyes tears flowed, he missed his lady of gold.
The brilliant gold star transformed said the legends
To a Golden female who laid atop the cliffs

Her jewel-hued eyes cried tears of gold
In Draco, she resided, said Bardic legends
As sentinel to daughter and mate – atop her cliffs.
