I love astrology almost as much as I love the paranormal … almost. What is fascinating about astrology is the fact, there is so much more to you than your sun sign.

A sun sign is the day you were born and where it fits within the 30-day cycle of that sign. Using myself as an example: I was born on May 7th. Which is right smack in the middle of Taurus.

Do I fit Taurus? I do not like admitting to it, but yes, I do. I prefer persistent and determined though to the word stubborn or hardheaded.

The thing is, that each sign also has a ruling planet that defines the personality traits of your sun sign even more, which gives you more depth. I’ve listed the signs and their ruling planets for you.

Aries is ruled by the planet Mars. Mars or Ares the god of war is a red angry planet. The god of war isn’t exactly known for his patience, and truthfully he isn’t happy unless he is arguing or fighting someone.

If you look at the sign Aries, he too isn’t known for his patience, and as a fire sign, he tends to be action oriented. Tends to act first before thinking about the consequences. That’s why the symbol is a ram. Rams always seem to be butting heads and fussing. They tend to keep busy and or active. Hard for them to relax.

Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus. Venus or Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty is a beautiful planet. The goddess of love likes her comfort as well as beautiful things. She can be a little bit lazy, and maybe set in what she wants and when.

If you look at Taurus, she too loves her comfort, which is why the symbol is that of bull. Slow to move, but once angered can be something to watch, because it is so rare. She loves food, so can be a little overweight. Tends to choose clothes for comfort rather than style. Can be stubborn, so it’s best to let them be, as they hate being pushed and prodded.

Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury – Mercury or Hermes is the god of communications and mischief. He once stole all of Apollo’s golden cattle to Apollo’s chagrin. Apollo was not happy. Mercury is the god of commerce, communications, and contracts.

Geminis are known to have dual personalities hence the symbol twins. There is the witty and communicative Gemini, and then there is jokester and mischief maker. They love interacting with others but can be a bit blunt, not to be mean, but get the conversations flowing. They love exchanging information and intelligent conversation. Tend to suffer short-term memory as in forgetting conversations or names.

Cancers are ruled by the Moon. The Moon or Diana is the goddess of the moon. There are two sides to the moon. The dark side which internal and unseen. The full moon which is external and exposed. The moon rules emotions as emotions are unseen. There are some that wear their emotions on their sleeve or exposed.

Cancers are usually shy and introverted, hence the symbol of the crab. If hurt they withdraw into their shell as a crab does. They are intuitive, sensitive and very nurturing. They prefer to be homebodies and many love cooking.

Leos are ruled by the Sun – The Sun or Apollo is the god of light and truth. He also is the center of the universe and expects the rest of the world to revolve around his needs and wants. Apollo was known for his light and truth. He also owned the Oracle of Adelphi which is known to speak the truth.

Leos like the sun are all about light and truth. What you see is what you get. They are generous, friendly, and outgoing for the most part. The can also be more withdrawn, but still think the world revolves around them. They love being the center of attention and make great bosses.

Virgos like Gemini are ruled by the planet Mercury. Where Mercury affects Gemini to make them great conversationalists and writers, Mercury makes Virgo meticulous and detail-oriented. Mercury is also known for medicine and health. Virgos make great nurses and can be health-oriented.  Virgos can be a bit critical, but they only mean it because they care about you. Some Virgos tend to be bossy as well.

Libras are also ruled by the planet Venus. Where Venus affects Taurus that they love their food and comfort. Venus affects Libra where they love clothes and entertaining. Libras like hosting parties or get-togethers. They make great hostesses. Libra’s are also more extroverted than Taurus and love being around people.

Scorpio’s are ruled by the planet Pluto. Pluto or Hades is the god of death, hell, and the underworld. Hades is also the god of the paranormal and spirits. Pluto was not one of the more pleasant gods as the other gods and goddesses were uncomfortable around him.

So it is with Scorpio. Scorpios tend to be intense personalities, and they can make people uncomfortable around them. They like the paranormal, spirits, and can be extremely fascinated with death and the occult. They also tend to be blunt and direct not caring about what others think about them.

Sagittarius’ are ruled by the planet of Jupiter. Jupiter or Zeus is the biggest planet as well as the primo god on Olympus. Jupiter is about expansion and broader awareness. It rules travel and learning. This planet isn’t about wisdom as it is about knowledge and schooling.

Sagittarius’ loves to travel especially internationally. They love it not only because of their explorer personality but also for the knowledge gained by going to those other countries. They can also be a bit independent as they want to maintain their freedom to learn everything they can and explore as much as they want.

Capricorns are ruled by the planet by the gloomy planet Saturn. Saturn is also known as Saturn in mythology. He is the taskmaster of the gods and rules time. He reminds the gods and humans that you cannot walk before learning to crawl.

That means to us mortals that you cannot take shortcuts. It is through hard work and patience that will allow you to achieve your goals. This translates into Capricorns as a rather stern and forbidding type person. They are hardworking people with a rather fixed personality. They may not know how to play, and they make lists of things to do before they allow themselves to play.

Aquarius’ are ruled by the planet Uranus. Uranus or the god of the sky is about higher communications and thinking. Where Mercury is about personal communications and interactions, Uranus is about mankind. Aquarius’s tend to be more global-oriented than Gemini’s. More interested in what is going on in the world about politics and science. They are more thinkers than talkers, so they like more the meeting of the minds.

Aquarius’ are more interested in intelligent debates, and can be intellectuals and great debaters. Sometimes they will start debates just to be able to participate in the conversation. They have great imaginations and can be an inventor or love playing chess.

Pisces’ is ruled by the planet Neptune. Neptune or the Poseidon, the god of the seas is about strong emotions. As the god of the oceans, he is also about the deepness that runs behind the face. As the ocean surface doesn’t reflect what is happening beneath it, so it is hard sometimes to tell what lies beneath a Pisces.

They feel deeply and can be very empathic, feeling everyone’s emotions around them. This can affect them physically and they can suffer from headaches, and body aches. They can be depressed and not know why. Neptune is also the god of dreams. Pisces may find it very hard or difficult to live in reality as they have such nice dreams.

There is so much more involved in the making of your own unique personality, but knowing more about the planet that rules your sign will give you even more insight into that uniqueness that is you.
